Remote employment is a work process outside the traditional workplace, involving interaction with the employer through telecommunications and information technology.

The number of remote workers worldwide increases by about 20 to 30 per cent each year. The leaders in this area are US, Canada, Finland, Denmark and Sweden. For example, in Finland, the workers account for about one third of the total working population.[5]

In general, the development of remote employment is a step towards greater flexibility in the labour market, which is an objective trend for both transition and developed market economies.[4]

There are the following concepts that characterize work outside the office: " remote work " , " homework " , " Frilans " , " distance work " .

Remote work is a form of work relationship between an employee and an employer characterized by an employee ' s performance outside the office.

The concept of " homework " is defined in the Labour Code of the Russian Federation (art. 310): " Persons who have entered into a work contract for the implementation of a work contract are considered as domestic workers. Homework from materials and using tools and mechanisms provided by the employer or purchased by the homeworker at their own expense.”[1] The result of homework is usually the material product.

Remote work is the form of a relationship between the worker and the employer when the office is located in other regions.

Thus, homework and distance work are narrower concepts than the definition of " remote work " , that is, remote work.

The most common type is remote contractual work. From office work, it is unique that the worker performs the duties assigned to him by a labour contract, not in his workplace, but outside the office or home. The " part-time " option is often found when the staff member enters the office only when there is a real need.

Another type of remote work is Frilans. The word " freelancer " means " free copy " : " voluntary artist " , " free mercenary " , " outside staff " .
